A few hours ago, I landed in Los Angeles, turned on my phone, and confirmed what you already know. Sony Pictures Television is replacing me as showrunner on Community, with two seasoned fellows that I’m sure are quite nice - actually, I have it on good authority they’re quite nice, because…

Find My iPhone
Too many times I’ve had my friends complain about losing or not being able to find their iPhones. Most of the time it the morning after a night out and they’ve either left their phone at a bar, at someone else’s apartment or, in the worst scenario, stolen.
Did you know that your iPhone (and iPad and Mac) have a feature built in to the operating system and all you have to do is...

My Favorite Super Bowl Commercials
“Well that was over the top.”
The Super Bowl ads this year weren’t all that great, especially from the big players. There was a lot of disappointment from Volkswagen with their followup to last year’s “The Force” commercial, “The Dog Strikes Back.” What would have put it over the top was if Darth Vader at the end was the same kid as last year force...
I Lied, This Was The Best Super Bowl Commercial
This only aired in Nebraska and was cut-off by a local news promo which makes it even more awesome.
Even Old Milwaukee links to the tv-recorded clip, not even an official video!

Comments/Commenters Are The Worst Things On The...
They’ve gone and blown it for everyone else.
I asked a question a few months back asking, “Is there any fairytales with the prince being rescued?” The next day I came across a saying or poem detailing how men want to be saved just like women; men want to be a part of a fairytale the same way women do.
Some commenters left very insightful comments about how most stories are...

Foursquare Is My (New) Favorite Social Network,...
Foursquare may be my favorite social network (sorry Path). I was talking with an ‘06 Miami alum the other night in Oxford and told him that I thought Foursquare was the most underrated social network. I believe things are going to change.
Things for Foursquare are going to change because Foursquare continually adds new features that users welcome with open arms. Unlike Facebook, and more...
You Can Still Access Wikipedia (They Even Tell You...
“Is it still possible to access Wikipedia in any way?
Yes. During the blackout, Wikipedia is accessible on mobile devices and smart phones. You can also view Wikipedia normally by disabling JavaScript in your browser, as explained on this Technical FAQ page. Our purpose here isn’t to make it completely impossible for people to read Wikipedia, and it’s okay for you to circumvent...

Voice and Motion-Controlled TVs Suck
Motion control can be cool, but it only lasts for so long.
I played Kinect for an extended period of time, outside of the demo at Best Buy, this past Friday. It was pretty neat for the first hour or so and then it became pretty boring, just like the Wii before it. The sensor detects your motion fairly well, much better than I expected.
The problem I face when deciding whether or not to buy a...

I Need Some Sharing Advice
I’m having a hard time trying to find the right medium to share all the photos, videos and links I, or someone else might, find interesting.
I post a lot of links to various things on Twitter, but I often find it gets lost and not all my friends have an account. If I think more people would enjoy what I found, I post it on Facebook because I know there’s a better chance of all my...
The Best App of 2011
The best app I downloaded this year was not Rdio. It wasn’t Instagram, Tweetbot, Foursquare or Messenger. All of those apps I use on a daily basis and are prominently displayed on my iPhone’s home screen. It also wasn’t Zaarly, Flipboard, Soundtracking or Hipstamatic Disposable (which I wrote about). Those are all pretty great apps too.
I thought about declaring Jetpack Joyride...

Today Is Update Your Parents Browser Day →
When I used to come home from Miami during Thanksgiving I always ran a “Software Update” on my parents’ computer. Every once in awhile, now that I’m home, I still run the OS update as well as make sure the browser is updated as well.
With a lot of people returning home for the holiday, take the time to update your family’s browser, applications and operating...
Facebook Messages > Email
Facebook Messages is superior to email.
You don’t need to know someone’s email address. The people you want to message are already your friends on Facebook. There’s no inputting someone’s address into contacts to make it easier. Their just there.
There’s no need for subject lines.
All messages are automatically archived. They’re all threaded. EVERYTHING IS...
Why I Want To Leave the United States Sometimes →
The US government spending is out of control, especially in regards to defense spending like the grounded F-22.
The Pentagon’s paying out $7.4 billion for “system upgrades…” Keep in mind that the F-22 is not only defective, but has never fired a single shot in aggression. Not a single combat mission. It’s flown, but never moved a centimeter in the defense of the US....

Movember
I’m in.
After much thought and consideration, I’ve decided to once again participate in Movember. What is Movember?
During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in the US and around the world. With their Mo’s, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers...

How to make money allowing people to use your...
Today on Facebook, a friend posted that his university charges a lot of money for a color print (still better than buying a printer). Another person than commented and finally it got around to “I’m surprised they don’t charge to use the [bathroom].”
I then commented, saying that if I could find a viable business plan to charge people to use the bathroom, I would be all...
Looking for some help
I’m looking to start a career in marketing in the Chicago area. I have experience with SEO (including AdWords), eCommerce, market research, PR, and other communication fields. I am especially interested in digital marketing, but enjoy more traditional methods as well.
Does anyone have any leads or contacts that may be of some help?

My Miami University Social Media Manifesto
My love for Miami University is fairly well known. My love for social media has been a great topic of discussion among my friends and potential employers. I’d like to see Miami take a few more giant leaps in their branding and usage of social media.
The biggest concern and stress of mine is consistency among all the various Miami social media services as well as communication among...

Ohio State, You Don't Really Have To Suck It
When the news broke last December that some Ohio State University football players sold memorabilia for comped tattoos from an alleged drug trafficker, I was a bit pleased. When Ohio State suspended head coach Jim Tressel for two games a few months later, I was also somewhat pleased. As time went on, and more and more information came out about how bad it really was, and how much trouble...
Are Gender Roles Inhibiting Interpersonal...
Men and women are different. They think differently, they act differently, they look differently, and they are conditioned differently. Men and women are supposed to have clearly defined roles, and because they are different, they are able to satisfy the requirements and expectations of those roles. This has been a greatly debated topic, and it will continue to be, especially in terms of roles...

The Dating Department
Mom: So how are things in the dating department?
Son: The dating department?
S: There's no dating department, Mom...
S: There's no store with a clerk behind a counter who helps you select someone to go out with...
S: That would be too logical! That would make too much sense! That would be too fair for regular guys who don't have power jobs, or fancy cars, or chiseled athletic physiques!!

Handwritten Letters: Vulnerability At Its Finest
I’m going to come right out and say it, I enjoy nothing more than writing a handwritten letter.
But Will, you love technology so much. Your iPhone is permanently attached to your hand. You average at least six Facebook posts everyday. Texting is your main form of communication, it even says that in your voicemail message. I WILL OUT-TWEET YOU!
For as much as I love technology and given...
Shazaming Old Navy
Old Navy has started airing a series of new commercials for their new spring lineups. Instead of running a campaign on Twitter or Facebook coinciding with the release (which I’m sure they’re probably doing as well), Old Navy has partnered with Shazam (http://www.shazam.com/).
Shazam is an app that helps users identify songs that are playing, be it on the radio, at a bar, or...

What Makes Miami, Miami
This time, I gotta get it right, gotta get it right this time
The other day I was helping lead a tour of Miami’s campus to an accepted student and his mother from Pasadena, as part of the “Make It Miami” program. While touring the sheets of ice at the Goggin Ice Arena, the mother turned to me and asked,
“What makes this place so special?” I have given my fair share of tours over the past few...
How Technology Has Changed The Way We Communicate
The ever-changing realm of technology has always fascinated the world, and how new advances in technology have helped shape the way people communicate with one another. Technological developments have changed the way we connect to others and we have adapted the rules of communication to work with these changes.
Debating whether or not all these new advances in communication technology are good...

I Will Talk With Anyone (And Want To)
I like questions.
I like questions, and I believe that’s why I want to go into marketing. Marketing is about asking questions, the right questions, and finding the answers or solutions to those questions.
Shooting off a string of random question after question can be fun, and I have a few books that are 100s of pages full of questions. Whether with a group of friends, or chatting with...
Why Don't We Date In College?
One of my tasks I have had to complete while working as the Alumni Weekend Student Assistant at the Alumni Association is compile responses for the reunion books given out to the 50-year reunion class at Alumni Weekend. Reading stories from Miami University alumni about their favorite campus memories, I’ve noticed that a lot of people write about their dating memories during their four years at...

Jeremy Roenick - Blackhawks Ambassador
The Chicago Blackhawks must make Jeremy Roenick an ambassador, now.
As a kid who grew up watching the ‘Hawks play in the 90s, I loved JR. Along with Chris Chelios, Eddie Belfour, and Tony Amonte, Roenick and these guys got me into hockey and started my passion for the game and the Blackhawks.
The Blackhawks organization has four ambassadors already with Stan Mikita, Tony Esposito, Bobby...
The Girlfriend Test
Here is the test I will evaluate all future potential girlfriends on:
Take her to Portillo’s.
Depending on what she orders, that will determine whether she is girlfriend material or not.
If she orders the Chopped Salad, it’s time to run for the hills. If she orders a Hot Dog with everything (but never ketchup), a dipped Italian Beef, or anything besides a Chopped Salad, keep...
New Year's Resolution
We’re all walking around with these glossy eyes. “I’m just tired,” we say.
But you know what? It’s bullshit.
Yes, we are tired, but it’s not all from lack of sleep. We are tired of waking up with nothing to look forward to, tired of going to bed exhausted after doing a million things we find no enjoyment in doing.
We’re tired of this void, this emptiness that looms over us even though our days...
